I’ve noticed that some of the tiny spots in my home are easily forgotten or not styled enough. I have had two areas in the house that have been bothering me, because they haven’t had enough ‘pop’ to make them noteworthy. I love filling smaller spaces, because these are the areas that you can perk up with personal momentos, pictures and plants.
I had one of these areas that had been glaring at me for quite a while, and it just bugged me. It was the corner in our living room where the end table meets the wall. I kept thinking “I can do so much more with that space”, but I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to see there. I originally had a picture there and a little sign, but it didn’t stand out at all.
It needed some life, so I brought over my beloved ZZ Plant from in the front of our foyer. I started to dislike where the ZZ plant was, too, so this seemed like the perfect time to shuffle some things around the house and give them new homes. The plant adds some height to the corner, and now I can actually see that there is something on our end table over the pillows we have on the couch. We bought this beautiful gem-inlaid globe (I love globes) a couple of years ago, and it’s just been sitting on top of our curio cabinet, mostly in the dark where no one could see it. Ridiculous! I pulled that down and set it next to the plant and then I added a framed picture of Joey and I from our trip to Hawaii. This picture plus the globe gives a nod to our love of travel, and it provides a vivid memory of how much we loved that trip. I definitely want to add a lamp to this corner in the future, but I need to figure out some wall decor before I decide on one of those!
I am so much happier with this little space now! It’s so nice to have a plant in that corner. I was shocked at how much I loved it there once I set it down! If you feel like you’re in a rut with decor around your house, mix it up! Move some stuff and start rearranging things to see if they add more spark to a different location. I’m still not sure what I’m going to do in the foyer now that the ZZ plant has been relocated, but that’s ok! I’ll think on it for a while and see what stuff I find around the house that I can use there. Tag me on Instagram at #housegonepretty if you mix up your small space decor! I want to see what you’ve done and glean some inspiration from all of you, too!
