Progress!

July 11, 2016

Remember this post from earlier this year when I was contemplating which color to choose for our guest room?  Surprise surprise, I changed my mind!  I decided to focus on a different area upstairs first.  My original game plan had been to spruce up the guest room but since I had been working on the wainscoting trim in the hallway for a lifetime and a half, I really wanted to add color and ‘finish’ that section.

I had put swatches of a bunch of neutral warm tones against the white wainscoting for a few days weeks to see what spoke to me and to see what I wanted for that area and I absolutely hated everything.  I am a neutral color girl through and through and the fact that nothing was jumping out at me was grating on my nerves.  I drove two people in my life particularly crazy over this decision because I could.not.decide. and this went on for a good two months.

I realized I needed something different and rich up there, because I obviously needed to be pushed out of my comfort zone with this one.  We originally decided on Gale Force for the accent wall in the guest room, but I was over my parents talking about the colors and in passing said “maybe that would look nice in the hallway”.  They both said YES.  DO IT.  I asked Joey what he thought, and he loved the idea, too!  (I think he was mostly happy I didn’t want to go neutral, heh.)   Once we actually decided on it, I was so pumped to get started!

Here we are all taped off and ready to go!

I am completely in love with this hallway now.  Since our walls were light to begin with, no priming was needed and it only took two coats.  In some lighting it looks more green, in other lighting it looks much more blue.  It was exactly what I was looking for.  Rich and elegant, not harsh and garish (which was my main worry with going dark).  A coordinating color that goes with Gale Force (thank you, internet!) is Shiitake by Sherwin Williams. We will be painting the foyer that color at some point when we hire some experts because twenty-foot walls? No thanks.

I’m excited for the next project, which will be the guest room this time!

Moving Right Along

February 10, 2016

So I got the first coat of paint on the end tables! Here’s how they’re looking mid-progress:

Excuse everything happening in the background.  It’s the middle of winter and the only place this can be done is my unfinished basement 😉

They already look 100% better!  I’m so happy with them so far.  The first coat dried way better than I anticipated, so I’m looking forward to the second coat and wrapping this project up.  I thought that it would be really patchy and streaky since you could see my brush and roller strokes once I got the first coat on, but the paint settled nicely!  This is really encouraging considering I have an old dresser that I have been eyeballing to strip and paint as well.  I might as well have matching pieces in there and since I don’t want to buy new furniture, I’m game to put in the elbow grease!

I have a lot of ideas of how I want to pull the room together once these are in there.  I have been scouring the internet for art prints, wall decals and bed sets and I’m getting more and more excited to see the finished product.  Can’t wait to show it all pulled together!
