The progress on our guest room stalled out for a little bit. I was feeling a bit uninspired, and there was something about the room that was bugging me and I couldn’t quite understand what it was. It was driving me crazy, so I decided to walk away from it for a bit to kind of see if I could figure out what the issue was.
The bedskirt and the curtains.
I love the comforter set that I got for the room, but it didn’t come with a bed skirt. I figured I would buy a basic white one and that would be that, problem solved. Nope. First off, bed skirts by themselves are expensive! I was shocked at how high some of the prices were for those…some even being $115! I ended up finding one at Target for $25 and thought that it would be decent and get the job done. Unfortunately, Target let me down on this one. It was rippled throughout the sides and looked sloppy, I had to iron it a lot before any of the wrinkles came out and it was a bit see-through, which was really irritating because you could see the bed frame under it. It’s all set to be returned, stat, so no pictures of the naked underbelly of the guest bed…sorry!
Next were the curtains, or lack thereof. With the darker color on the walls, this room has been begging for curtains for quite a while. I had picked up a set and a rod for them about a month ago, but life got in the way so they never made their way to actually being installed in the room. Joey put up the curtain rod on Saturday and I was able to get those curtains hung up. What a difference! Even that small change added another dose of personality to the room. They’re white curtains with pom-poms on them and I love the little bit of texture they add to the room.
So even though I’m back to square one with the bed skirt, at least some progress was made with a different aspect of the room! I’m making that bedskirt my next mission to hopefully complete. Sometimes it’s good to take a step away to get some clarity on what you really envision for a space. You can’t rush a good thing 🙂
