Man, it’s been a little bit but we’ve had some pretty big life events happening for us lately! Last year, Joey and I decided to pursue adoption, and as of a little bit ago, we are currently a waiting family! We started with the introductory class last April in 2017. After that class, we had a formal application to fill out to be able to start the process of working with the agency. We had some trips lined up last summer, so we were working on the application off and on for a few months and finally got it sent in at the end of August.
When we turned in our application, things happened so quickly after that! We needed to get all of our work releases and information turned in, our fingerprints done, go to several more adoption classes, and get our physicals completed before our home studies could be scheduled. We turned everything in and amazingly, the home studies were scheduled for September and October! We were shocked it happened that fast because we anticipated having to wait at least a few months before we would even get them scheduled! By the end of November, we had both home studies completed and we were waiting on the agency to approve them and the state to sign off on our eligibility as a waiting family. This was the part that took quite a bit of time.
We knew it would be a longer wait at this point, because we were approaching holiday season and we knew the agency had a few families waiting to be approved before us. In the meantime, we worked on our photo book that the agency gets a copy of to show the birthparents our profile. This is used as one of the first steps to help them get to know us and to see if they would like to pursue us as being a match for their baby! We also got some pictures taken by the lovely Allē Sanchez to document our journey!
Finally, in February we were approved! We are so excited to be a waiting family now, and we pray every day for the birthparents and their baby during their journey towards choosing a family for their child. As exciting as it is for us to be in this process, it is an immensely difficult decision for them to make, and one that will not be taken lightly. We will be so unbelievably grateful when we are chosen one day!
Since the approval, we have been working on the nursery little by little and oh my gosh I cannot wait to share that with all of you! Much more will be coming soon, and we can’t wait to share!
Have a great Monday, everyone!
