OH EM GEE.
It’s finally done! My porch is finally done and set up for the Fall!
I am so excited and this is gonna be a loooong post so buckle up for the hayride. If you watched my IG Stories, last week on Tuesday I enlisted the help of Joey, my Mom and my Dad (and his truck, because we have two compact cars and we tried to haul hay bales home in those one year – GOOD TIMES. I vacuumed my car out like six times.) to come with me to the farmer’s market to pick out all my fall beauties that you see here today. If you’ve been following for a while, you know that I arrange and rearrange approximately 150 times before I’m satisfied with the final look, so it takes me a minute to complete the ensemble. I’m a perfectionist by nature but I know that with stuff like this, the more imperfect the better. I like to shuffle stuff around so that I can hopefully stumble upon an unexpected arrangement that I love. Trial and error for the win!
First up is always the hay bales. I think I’m a sucker for these because of the cider mills. They’re so inviting and you know when you get there you’ll have a place to sit, a great drink and a delicious donut. I want people to feel that hospitality when they come up to my house, too. “Come on in! Grab a drink! I HAVE DONUTS!” You get me, right? Right. They’re also perfect for stacking and I pile as much as I can onto these every year because I can never get enough of the endless possibilities.
We grabbed two giant cornstalks to start to see if that would be enough for the porch. Luckily, they’re pretty full this year so two was all we needed. These actually still have corn on them, too, so I’m prepared to go out there banging pots and pans and being all “GET OFF MY LAWN!” if deer decide to have a smorgasboard. The corn is cute and I intend to keep it!
The mums were already here for about two weeks so I just mixed those around and staged them..I can’t get over how pretty they look. This is the first year I picked up some mums. Why did I wait so long?!
Now onto my favorite part…the pumpkins and gourds! We always get two big pumpkins so we can carve them for Halloween, and the big orange ones are a classic that can’t be passed up. Then we picked up some Heirloom Pumpkins and these ones are my favorite. They’re so textured and squat and come in so many different shapes and sizes, it’s hard to choose when I’m at the pumpkin patch! Joey really liked this bluish green one and I had never seen one with raised spots on it before, so I grabbed both of those. Then I had to stock up on some gourds because they have such beautiful color combinations and are just plain weird and I like ’em. I also couldn’t forget the mini-pumpkins because THEY’RE SO FREAKIN’ CUTE.
I mean, really tho.
I added a few decor additives, like some leftover burlap I had from my mantle decor, my welcome sign from the craft show that I bought a few weeks ago, and a scarecrow I bought at Menards this year. I hung my fall wreath cascade on the door and wrote out a little greeting on my chalkboard wreath holder, another two pieces that I’ve had but I adore them both. Last but not least I set out my fall doormat and we are set for the season! I’m so pleased with how it turned out and I love driving by coming home from work and seeing everything all set up!
What do your porches and entryways look like for fall?! I am in love with looking at people’s fall decor, so be sure to show me what you’ve got goin’ on at your place!
HAPPY FALL, Y’ALL!
