Memorial Day! I love this long weekend. It always comes at the perfect time when everyone needs a refresher, and some extra time to spend outside enjoying the weather. It’s been a relaxing one for me, that’s for sure! Joey had a bachelor party to go to up in Traverse City, so I spent the day organizing the house, shopping with my parents and hanging out with my sisters. It was nice to have a low-key weekend to kick off the busier weekends of summer ahead!
This got me thinking about how I want to entertain for the summer. We finally have our patio set (more on that, soon!) so I want to get a lot of good use out of it! For me, this means I have to have a convenient system…some simple, no-frills method that will make it easy and worry-free to entertain. I’ve noticed lately that it seems like the food prep and eating outside situation seems a bit clunky and not very streamlined. While I was walking around shopping, I noticed that there is tons of melamine dinnerware out now. It’s beautiful with so many fun colors and patterns, so it’s perfect for summertime entertaining! It’s also great for worry-free fun. A kid drops a glass? No big deal. A plate falls off the table? No shards of glass to clean up. And the best part is I’m not lugging my clunky, delicate stoneware in and out of the house every time!
Here are a few things that caught my eye:
This plate set is so cheerful with all of the summer colors on it. This would be a great set to have to mix and match different colored napkins, goblets and placemats.
The beautiful Mexican patterns on this set caught my eye. The motifs are intricate, detailed, and colorful and with four different patterns, nothing has to be too matchy-matchy on the table. These plates would be great for the Mexican-food lovers who have lots of Taco Tuesdays and Fajita Fridays!
These plates also have the Mexican Talavera print on them, but a consistent blue/green theme throughout. If you have a color scheme like this on your patio, these would be a great set to have. Plus the 12 piece set is a steal!
Let’s talk drinks. Who doesn’t love drinking out of a fancy-pants goblet? I know I do! These would be great to have with more multi-colored sets of dinnerware, to pull in all the colors and make the table look super festive. They could also look great with a solid-color plate set, and you could use the napkins and goblets to bring in the pops of color without being too intense.
More goblets! These ones are perfect if you don’t want the super fancy ones. If you have a busier pattern on the plates, something sleek and simple may be what you need so the table isn’t overwhelmed. These fit the bill for anything from water, to iced tea, to wine.
I couldn’t take my eyes off of these two hammered beverage holders. They’re beautiful, classic and are perfect to have outside on the patio to chill drinks. One less trip to the fridge? Yes, please. This also lets your guests feel free to grab what they like without missing a beat of conversation. The only problem is I cannot decide between the silver or the copper! Both give me all the heart eyes. Which would you pick?
Don’t forget to tweet or tag me on Instagram at #housegonepretty with pictures of your holiday table settings, I would love to see them! I am so looking forward to all of the festivities the summer has to offer! I hope you all have a fun-filled and relaxing holiday!
