We can just hashtag this post #grownups because we finally, finally got new furniture and we painted the walls! We have been married for 7 years and have never purchased our own living room set. Luckily, we had family give us couches and chairs for our home so we didn’t need anything for the longest time, but we decided it was time to take the plunge.
We ordered the living room set about 8 weeks ago, and we had to wait for it to come in because we got a custom color. In the meantime, Joey and I waffled back and forth (and back and forth) about paint because I’m the one with commitment issues when it comes to the color wheel. I had it narrowed down to about 8 colors but I just couldn’t decide which one. We had some fabric swatches to use when comparing but a 6″ x 6″ piece isn’t all that helpful sometimes. Ultimately, Joey was fine with whatever I decided, so naturally, I decided on nothing and just decided to wait it out because “we’ve got time”.
Let’s fast forward 7 weeks and we got the call that our furniture was in! Still no color on the walls, so it was game time for real. We decided on Jogging Path by Sherwin Williams. I’m a big fan of Sherwin Williams paints…remember this post? It’s a light grey with taupe undertones so it pulls in the color of the couches and the pillows really well. I didn’t want a color that was too dark because I love light and bright spaces but I also wanted to warm it up. This color works out beautifully. It’s so cozy at night and still seems light and airy during the day.
The couch color is called ‘granite’ and it is a mixture of colors, but it’s mostly a taupe color with just a hint of green in it. I love the damask pattern on the pillows (and that we have so many of them!) I’m going to pull colors from the pillows and add some nice drapes to the windows soon.
This big wall right here is another project on my list. I am able to start searching for ideas and pieces to put on this wall, so I can’t wait to dive into that and have some fun! It’s definitely the focal wall of the room, so there are a lot of possibilities. Any thoughts or suggestions? Give me ideas! I love to see what other people have done in their homes!
Another piece that we got that I am SUPER pumped about is our coffee table! We have never had one before! I loved this one because I can style it on the top and underneath as well. I can’t wait to start searching for things to add to it, as well as build in some convenience piece for us…i.e. hide the remotes.
I am so so thrilled with how the living room is shaping up! Our DIY fireplace upgrade pops so much more now that we have color on the walls and furniture in the room. It so exciting to see the possibilities of decor open up as the big staple pieces get added to the room!
